Hoisting Prefabricated Home Sections with McIntyre Crane & Rigging

Pikey managed the transport, while our crew prepared the 50-ton Manitex 50155SHL for the lift. Once the staircase sections arrived, our skilled crane operators went to work. The lift was smooth and efficient, and while the construction crew still had to fasten everything in place, the time savings compared to building two staircases entirely on site were remarkable.

Next came the floor sections. These were heavier than the stairs, but no challenge for our Calgary crane service team. With precise rigging and steady teamwork, each section was placed precisely where it needed to be. The project is still ongoing, with more sections to be hoisted in the coming days, but so far, everything has gone according to plan. We will share more updates as the work continues.

We were called to Spruce Meadows Park in Calgary, Alberta, for a unique lifting project: repositioning a decommissioned post-war battle tank that had remained untouched for years. Although some internal parts were missing, the tank was still very heavy and had become deeply embedded in the ground, a problem made worse by Calgary’s freeze-thaw cycles. This combination made the lift especially challenging.

Since the tank was no longer drivable (yes, we asked), it required specialized crane services to move it safely and efficiently.

Last March, our team journeyed to Whitecourt, Alberta, to assist our partners at Arctic Arrow Powerline with relocating a transmission tower. With our extensive experience in the powerline industry, McIntyre Crane & Rigging boasts a strong reputation as a reliable partner in transmission construction and maintenance. We utilized our 130-ton Tadano ATF 110G-5 and our 50-ton Manitex 50155SHL for this project. The 50-ton crane was responsible for handling the lines, while the 130-ton crane lifted the tower and transferred it to the new pedestal. Our team members Jay, Brock, and Crikey Davis played crucial roles in operating the cranes and assisting with rigging, ensuring the success of the project. 

If you happened to pass Calgary’s airport lately, you might have observed our cranes in action, hoisting AHUs (Air-handling Units) or HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) units. Our cranes were working on the Green Dome Islamic School project, a valuable addition to Calgary’s expanding northeast community. Due to the building’s location near the airport, we faced a boom height restriction of 96ft, which would be challenging when lifting a unit weighing 16,000 lbs to the highest point of the building. However, our team successfully executed the lift operation despite the challenges, thanks to meticulous planning. These lifting jobs demonstrates our ability to deliver results within tight timeframes.

We were recently hired for a big hoisting project that involved lifting over 40+ HVAC units to the top of a superstore in Airdrie. This project required a tremendous amount of pre-planning and coordination to ensure everything ran smoothly.

We started by carefully assessing the site and the requirements of the project to determine the right equipment for the job. This included bringing our 200-ton DEMAG AC160-2 crane and our 30-ton MAINTEX 30102C crane, as well as our 50-ton Manitex 50155SHL crane. We also brought along a team of experienced crew members who were trained on our equipment and had the necessary skills to execute the lift safely and efficiently.
